What is Statement of Purpose, or SOP? Who is required to furnish it and why? What happens if I don’t furnish it? Who can help me correct or make my SOP better?
A University you chose to apply for a course requires to assess your candidature before they make you an offer. The generally try to assess whether you are a genuine student and whether, if offered, you would be a student they would like to enrol in their programs. Like you chose a University, they also have certain entry criteria on back of which they assess students. Australian Government also require Universities to assess whether a student is a genuine temporary entrant or not. One of the ways the Universities assess this is by requiring an applicant to submit an SOP, or a Statement of Purpose why they are applying to the particular University, country and course. What would they gain by pursuing this course. If you dont furnish a SOP, generally most universities would not make you an offer unless you submit it. An SOP will also be required when you go for the VISA interview, and documentation all across make SOP mandatory in most cases ( I have not yet come across a situation where an SOP has been dispensed with, before you ask me this question).
