Common University Entrance Test is held by the National Testing Agency (NTA) every year, as a standardized eligibility framework for entrance to undergraduate programs (degrees) in Central, State, Private and deemed Universities across India. This year the exam will be held between May 8 and June 1, 2025, with different dates for different subjects.

While CUET is not compulsory, and Universities and Colleges not participating might accept your application on the basis of Class XII results, it might be beneficial for students to appear for this exam to strengthen their chances to secure admissions in the bigger Universities, particularly if they wish to improve upon their Class XII performance as qualifying criteria.

This exam is divided into three sections, a general section, a test on domain subjects, and a language section. Each section is for 60 minutes and is based on the class XII curriculum.

All information on this test is available on the official website https://cuet.nta.nic.in/.

This test can be taken any number of times. The fee is INR 1000/- for the first three subjects and INR 400/- for each subject other than the first 3. A total of 5 subjects can be chosen including a language and 4 domain subjects.

For eligibility criteria, including age, nationality, school performance, and every other information needed for the CUET exam, the official website has a very useful bulletin which contains most information required: https://cdnbbsr.s3waas.gov.in/s3d1a21da7bca4abff8b0b61b87597de73/uploads/2025/03/2025030146.pdf

The test is based on multiple choice questions format, with 5 marks for each correct answer, negative 1 mark for each wrong answer, and zero marks for questions not attempted. The total marks are out of 800, and several top Universities have a cutoff between 650-700. Please look at cut off marks in various Universities before deciding which University and program to apply to, and if necessary, you might wish to give the test again to obtain higher marks.

The list of participating Universities is at: https://cuet.nta.nic.in/universities/

This test is held nationwide. We wish you all the best to prepare and obtain terrific scores and pursue the right program in the right University in India to pursue the career of your choice.
