How long a person can stay in UK with tier 4 visa after completing the course?
How long you can stay depends on the length of your course and what study you’ve already completed in the UK. If you’re 18 or over and your course is at degree level, you can usually stay in the UK for up to 2 years and for Phd you can stay in the UK for up to 3 years.
If you are a student from India who plans on studying and working part-time in the UK:
The UK government introduced the Graduate Route for international students looking to continue working after their studies. This gives students the freedom to stay in the UK to work or look for work without being sponsored by a company. Currently, undergraduate and postgraduate students can work or look for work after their studies for a period of up to two years, while doctoral students are granted three years.
However, proposed changes may reduce the stay period for undergraduate and postgraduate students from two years to 18 months for those starting courses from January 2026 onwards. This is not yet implemented but is under consideration.
To qualify for a UK Graduate Route visa, students will need to have a valid Student visa at the time of their application. They must also show that they have completed the entirety of their course in the UK as a student.
